About
In our modern world, we are expected to define ourselves through our careers, credentials, families, and education. Although these things do inform my identity, they are certainly not monolithic.
I am many things: a writer, an artist, intellectual, lover of coffee, player of chess. A painter, chef, crafter, caretaker, spouse, creative, lover, and yogi. A neurodiverse woman. A former retail worker. An academic. A former life coach, astrologer, communications manager, and tutor. I have a degree in gender studies (BA) and another in political psychology (MA). I’ve given keynote speeches at conferences, been a nationally-recognized feminist activist, award-winning poet, and self-made entrepreneur.
We don’t often talk about the labels that we don’t like, when describing myself. But how can one gain a clear, transparent image of me if they don’t know I’ve suffered from mental illness, homelessness, eating disorders, migraines, autism, or sexual abuse? That I’m chronically lonely, yet also, happiest when in my own company?
I am my triumphs, as well as my challenges; I’m also none of these things. I am simply, me: Erin Sugarman. I look forward to showing and expressing who I am, through the ideas I share here.
